Since the Viper left the building, the Challenger has been the sole Dodge to don fat racing stripes across its hood, roof, and tail. It was feeling lonely and a little self-conscious. So, in solidarity, the 2018 Durango will wear fat racing stripes.
Available on R/T and SRT trims—those are the big honkin’ V-8s with 360 or 475 horsepower—a set of contrasting center stripes can be ordered in blue, red, gray, silver, or black for $1195. That makes the Durango the only Shelby-ish three-row SUV. In our tests, though, the Durango SRT can legitimately wear stripes. It accelerates, turns, grips, and brakes exceptionally well for something this large and tall—and for about half the price of a Mercedes-AMG GLS63.
If you’re more interested in a loud exhaust than loud paint, Dodge also has released a bolt-on Mopar performance exhaust that includes four-inch chrome tips; the additional burble and fury can be yours for $1850 on SRT models and $1595 for R/Ts.
Additionally, a $325 set of lowering springs drop the Durango SRT’s ride height by 0.6 inch, while promising to reduce squat, dive, and roll.
Finally, the SRT Interior Appearance package adds genuine carbon fiber to the instrument panel and door bezels in addition to wrapping the dash in a leatherlike upholstery and the headliner in microsuede. It’s available only on the Durango SRT, and the price for such style is $2495. But if you’re going to haul six people to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, you might as well look the part.
