Mercedes-Benz revealed the all-new A-Class hatch today in Amsterdam, complete with the new corporate face, a fully upgraded interior, and tons of tech features.
On the outside, Mercedes has given the A-Class its new corporate face, first seen on the new CLS. Sharp headlights meet a flattened oval grille, giving the car a more mature look overall. Inside, drivers get an S-Class-esque steering wheel, dash, and Mercedes’s signature ambient lighting.
The new A-Class is the first production Mercedes to feature the company’s all new “MBUX” artificial intelligence infotainment system first revealed at CES. A dual 10.5 inch screen dashboard, integrated voice controls, braking assist and lane-keeping assist are standard. These systems can be upgraded to feature the same semi-autonomous driving features seen on more expensive cars like the S-Class. An “augmented reality” feature, which uses the middle dash screen to overlay your front view with useful items such as navigation directions, is optional.
European buyers will have three choices of engines at launch; a 114-horsepower 1.5-liter diesel A180d, a 160-horsepower 1.4-liter A200, or a 221-horsespower 2.0-liter A250. That last trim is capable of 0-60 in 6.2 seconds. Whatcar reports a Mercedes-AMG A45 hot hatch will reach production sometime in 2019.
There’s no word on whether the new A-Class will be sold stateside, but seeing as how Mercedes hasn’t sold it here before, we have our doubts. It’s more likely we’ll see it here as a CLA sedan and GLA crossover.
